The African Collection, Art Gallery of Ontario

The new gallery space housing the African Collection is designed as a room within a room. The inner room is a luminous courtyard housing the collection’s large-scaled treasures. A perimeter gallery wraps the inner room displaying medium and smaller objects. Each wall of the perimeter gallery has a vertical slot window providing a place for four exceptional objects which allows viewing from both sides.
